PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a red ink tank which realizes high visibility enabling a user to easily and visually recognize a color of ink stored in the tank, and an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: This red ink tank is equipped with an ink storage part wherein red ink including a coloring material is stored. The red ink tank is characterized as follows: a part, wherein total light transmittance in the state of storage of ion-exchanged water in the ink storage part is 50% or more, is provided; a thickness h of an ink layer of a part, through which visible light passes, is in a range of 5-10 mm; a hue angle H°of the ink is in a range of 40-100°; average transmittance in a 600-800 nm wavelength range measured by ultraviolet/visible spectrophotometry at an optical path length of the ink of 10 mm is 50% or more; and average transmittance in a 380-800 nm wavelength range measured by ultraviolet/visible spectrophotometry at the optical path length of the ink of 10 mm is 50% or less.
