<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus capable of suitably correcting misregistration which may be caused when forming a color image by superposing toner images of different colors while improving image formation efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: In the color image forming apparatus 1, position detection patterns are formed on a carrying belt 21 by respective image formation parts 30Y, 30M, 30C, 30Bk, the position detection patterns are detected by an image position detection part 50, and when performing misregistration correction processing for correcting the misregistration on the basis of the detection results of the image position detection part 50, a non-image part density pattern is formed in a non-image formation area on the carrying belt 21 during non-image formation, the non-image part density pattern is detected by the image position detection part 50, and the image forming conditions of the position detection pattern by the image formation parts 30Y, 30M, 30C, 30Bk.
