PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive adhesive composition for a woody material, without releasing formaldehyde or irritating smell, without causing skin eruptions, the soiling of the woody materials, without causing discoloration, having along usable time, and excellent in waterproofness and heat resistance. SOLUTION: This composition contains a main agent consisting of a carboxyl group-modified aqueous emulsion resin or latex resin with an aqueous solution of a carboxyl group-modified polyvinyl alcohol and an N,N-diglycidylamino group-containing compound as a 4-functional epoxy compound having a tert-amino nitrogen atom. Also the composition contains 0.2-270 pt.wt. carboxyl group-modified polyvinyl alcohol having 0.1-10 mol.% modified amount and 100-6,000 range degree of polymerization as a resin portion contained in the aqueous solution of the polymer and 0-700 pt.wt. filler based on 100 pts.wt. carboxyl group-modified aqueous emulsion resin or latex resin having 0.1-20 mol wt.% modified amount.
