PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a green phosphor which retains sufficiently practical color purity with excellent characteristics in terms of its luminance, light emitting intensity and life. SOLUTION: The green phosphor is represented by (La<SB>1-a-b</SB>Tb<SB>a</SB>A<SB>b</SB>)<SB>x</SB>(Mg<SB>1-s-t</SB>Mn<SB>s</SB>Zn<SB>t</SB>)<SB>y</SB>Al<SB>z</SB>O<SB>y+1.5(x+z)</SB>.
