<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas diffusion electrode for a solid polymer type fuel cell, having superior capability of rapidly draining a surplus moisture content to the outside of a cell system, while keeping a polymer electrolyte membrane in a humid state by providing a uniform water-shedding property to the gas diffusion electrode, and which is capable of keeping stable power generation performance over a long time, and to provide its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The solid polymer type fuel cell 11 is equipped with a pair of separators 6 catching a membrane/electrode assembly (MEA), comprising a pair of gas diffusion electrodes 3 catching an assembly A comprising a pair of catalyst layers 2 catching a polymer electrolyte membrane 1, and current collecting plates 7. This gas diffusion electrode for the solid polymer type fuel cell is such that the separators 6 have circulation channels 4 and 5 for passing an anode gas or a cathode gas on their surfaces on the membrane/electrode assembly (MEA) side; and a water-shedding material containing at least a fluorine-containing compound is formed in the electrolyte membrane 1, and the base material of the pair of the gas diffusion electrodes 3 sandwiching catching the solid polymer electrolyte 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
