<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte membrane electrode assembly for a solid polymer fuel cell of which the electrolyte membrane and electrodes are unlikely to deteriorate, and to provide the solid polymer fuel cell, preventing drop in the performance, even after prolonged operation. <P>SOLUTION: The electrolyte membrane-electrode assembly for the solid polymer fuel cell comprises an electrolyte membrane, having ionic conductivity and a pair of electrodes arranged on both sides of the electrolyte membrane, a slightly soluble tungstate decomposing peroxide is made to be contained in at least one of the electrolyte membrane and a pair of electrodes.
