A clamping means for stacking containers, e.g. on board a ship, is fitted to the corner grips around the bottom of a container. The upper part of the bolt (2) has a normal double headed grip profile (22) and a conical shaft (26) to lock into the corner grips. The lower part of the bolt has an asymmetric shape with one locking profile (24) and with a sloping face (242) for aligning into the upper corner grips of a lower container. The sloping profiles generate a slight translational movement to align and secure the containers. Grip holes (4) ion the bolt ensure a simple release if the bolt jams.
