<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer in which misprinting due to a paper size error at a manual insertion tray is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: The printer is equipped with the manual insertion tray, a paper loading detection means for detecting whether or not a paper is loaded on the manual insertion tray, a paper width detection means for detecting a width of the paper set at a side fence, a paper size estimation means for estimating a paper size from the detected paper width, a paper length detection means for detecting a length of the paper at the time of paper feeding, and a paper size decision means for deciding a paper size from the detected paper length.
