PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic endoscope appropriately adaptable for various ranges and various methods of scanning and for various treatment purposes, contributing to the improvement of efficiency of manufacturing processes and the reduction of the manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: An ultrasonic observation unit 24 of the ultrasonic endoscope 1 consists of an ultrasonic vibrator 31 for transmitting/receiving ultrasonic waves, a rotation driving means 37 for rotating the ultrasonic vibrator, a rotary type signal transmitting means 35 for transmitting/receiving signals with the rotating ultrasonic vibrator, and a rotation position detecting means 36 for detecting the rotation position of the ultrasonic vibrator, all of which are integrated. The ultrasonic observation unit 24 is disposed at a distal end body 21a constituting an endoscope insertion part 2 of the ultrasonic endoscope 1, and is detachable from the distal end body.
