PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for speedily sensing leakage when SO<SB>3</SB>and sulfuric acid generating SO<SB>3</SB>gas are leaked from a facility for handling sulfuric acid and SO<SB>3</SB>gas. SOLUTION: An optical sensor is installed in the vicinity of the facility for handling sulfuric anhydride gas, and the white smoke generated in the case sulfuric anhydride gas is leaked in the atmosphere is detected by the optical sensor.
