PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lathe, inexpensive and achieving efficient machining. SOLUTION: A Y-direction motor 35 for moving a movable carriage 40 in the Y-direction is fitted to a support frame 30. X-direction motors 45, 46 are fitted to the movable carriage 40. When the X-direction motor 45 is driven, a tool mounted on a tool rest 50 is moved to reciprocate in the X-direction. When the X-direction motor 46 is driven, the tool mounted on a tool rest 60 is moved to reciprocate in the X-direction. Since the tool rests 50 and 60 are moved independently, while machining is performed by the tool mounted on the tool rest 50, the preparation work for the next machining can be performed on the tool rest 60 side. Further, machining can be performed by the tools mounted on both of the tool rests 50, 60 at the same time, so that the total machining time can be reduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
