A smartcard system and method is provided to generate a key for preventing a copy of the smartcard using a serial number and entropy counting so as to classify fingerprint of a user. A smart card(10) includes an RF driving unit(11) for communicating with a terminal(20), a fingerprint characteristic information storage(12), a fingerprint classifying information storage(13), and a card information storage(14) for storing a serial number of the smart card. The terminal(20) includes an RF interface(21) for communicating with the smart card, a memory(22), a CPU(23) for processing information, a fingerprint inputting unit(24), and a system controller(25) for controlling a system according to authentication result.
