An optical pickup device and an apparatus for recording or playing optical information are provided to enable uses of a plurality of optical sources where the optical sources generate light fluxes having various wavelengths without sacrificing a degree of freedom of designing the object optical system. An optical pickup device comprises a first optical source(LD1), a second optical source(EP1), a third optical source(EP2), a package multiple optical source unit(LM1), an object optical unit(OBJ) and a magnification adjusting optical unit(MR). The first optical source generates a first light flux of a first wavelength. The second optical source generates a second light flux of a second wavelength longer than the first wavelength. The third optical source generates a third light flux of a third wavelength longer than the second wavelength. The package multiple optical source unit houses at least two of the three optical sources in a single housing. The object optical unit condenses at least three light fluxes generated from the three different optical sources into at least three different types of optical disks having different information recording densities each other. The magnification adjusting optical unit comprises an actuator and an operation lens group and is arranged between the package multiple optical sources and the object optical unit. The operation lens group is driven by the actuator in order to change the magnification of the object optical unit according to the wavelengths of the light fluxes generated by the package multiple optical sources.
