A mixing vessel (2) can be rotated inside a casing (1) between loading and discharge positions where materials (5) for mixing and mixed material (6) can be enter and leave respectively via an opening (4) in the vessel wall. A discharge vessel (7) for collecting the mixed material is connected to the bottom of the casing. A mixer comprises a mixing vessel rotatably mounted in a casing and containing a stirrer. An opening in the mixing vessel wall is used to supply the vessel with materials for mixing and to empty the mixed material into a discharge vessel connected to the bottom of the casing. A drive mechanism (9) is used to rotate the mixing vessel between a loading position (A) and a discharge position (C). The space inside the casing around the mixing vessel forms an air displacement region (8) between the mixing and discharge vessels. An independent claim is also included for a casing containing a mixing vessel, stirrer and drive mechanism for connecting to a discharge vessel for receiving the prepared mixture.
