Auxiliary hand guard for cutting machine, held in upper position by actuator and urged to slide into lower position by spring

The auxiliary hand guard (6) is slidably mounted on the actuator for the rotary blade (4) and preferably on the primary hand guard (3), so that the auxiliary hand guard can be moved in the direction of the lower cutting tool and it is permanently pressed in this direction by a spring (8). The actuator is used to hold the auxiliary hand guard in its upper protective position and the spring urges it into the lower protection position where it is in contact with a fixed stop (7) on the main body (1) of the blade holder. The actuator and blade then move into the lower cutting position and the blade protrudes through a slit (13) in the lower part of the auxiliary hand guard when the blade is in its final cutting position. The blade holder comprises a main body securable to a knife beam and an actuator for a circular blade which can be moved backwards and forwards between an upper resting position and a lower cutting position. A box-shaped primary hand guard fixed to the actuator extends to the side and above the blade and the region of this hand guard facing the counter- tool has a circle segment-shaped space which is covered by the secondary hand guard. The blade is completely covered in the upper resting position where it is lifted clear of the lower tool and when the blade is in the lower cutting position the part of this blade engaged with the lower tool is exposed.
