Antimicrobial phosphate glass comprises (wt.%): (i) phosphorus oxide (66-80); (ii) aluminum oxide (6.2-10); (iii) sodium oxide (9-20); and (iv) zinc oxide (0-25). Antimicrobial phosphate glass comprises (wt.%): phosphorus oxide (66-80), sulfur trioxide (0-40), boron oxide (0-1), aluminum oxide (6.2-10), silicon oxide (0-10), sodium oxide (9-20), calcium oxide (0-25), magnesium oxide (0-15), strontium oxide (0-15), barium oxide (0-15), zinc oxide (0-25), silver(I) oxide (0-5), copper(II) oxide (0-10), germanium oxide (0-10), tellurium oxide (0-15), chromium(III) oxide (0-10), iodine (0-10) and fluorine (0-3). Independent claims are also included for: (1) tin-free antimicrobial phosphate glass comprising (wt.%): phosphorus oxide (66-80), sulfur trioxide (0-40), boron oxide (0-1), aluminum oxide (0-3.9), silicon oxide (0-10), alkali metal oxides (0.4), calcium oxide (0-25), magnesium oxide (0-15), strontium oxide (0-15), barium oxide (0-15), zinc oxide (1-25), silver(I) oxide (0-5), copper(II) oxide (0-10), germanium oxide (0-10), tellurium oxide (0-15), chromium(III) oxide (0-10), iodine (0-10) and fluorine (0-3); (2) antimicrobial glass ceramic based on a glass as above; (3) antimicrobial composite material comprising a polymer and a glass or glass ceramic as above; (4) production of the glass by mixing all of the components, including silver and zinc oxides and other antimicrobial components, and fusing the mixture in a crucible; (5) production of the composite material by mixing the polymer with the powdered glass and heating the mixture to 50-350[deg]C in a mixer; (6) production of composite granules by grinding the composite material; (7) production of a (semi)finished plastic product by processing the composite material.
