PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive controller for a hybrid work machine which can continue to conduct assist action by a motor/generator stably by securing a residual quantity of charge stably, without dropping the operation performance of a hydraulic actuator part. SOLUTION: This drive controller is equipped with motor/generator control means (21 and 38) which control the operation of the motor/generator 20, which is provided capably of torque transmission to an engine 16 for driving a hydraulic pump 17, and a pump suction torque controller 30, which controls the input torque to the hydraulic pump 17. When it is determined that a travel mode is to be run by operation mode determining means (21, 44-49), the motor/generator control means (21 and 38) inhibit the power run operation by the motor/generator 20, and the pump suction torque controller 30 sets the maximum value of the input torque to a value, corresponding to the output torque value at the maximum output point of the engine 16 or the output torque value the vicinity thereof.
