PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image imaging apparatus capable of attaining high speed network connection while saving the power consumption. SOLUTION: The image imaging apparatus carries out a function of imaging an object image and outputting the image as image data; a function of recoding the image data as an image file; a function of connecting with an IP network; a function for data communication with an external device; and a communication mode setting function to transfer the image data to the external device. The image imaging apparatus starts the supply of power to a block having the function of connecting with the IP network at communication mode setting and stops the power supplied to the block at the end of the communication mode. Further, after the application of power to the image imaging apparatus main body, the connection to the IP network is established at the first setting of the communication mode, and the connection to the IP network is established at second and succeeding settings of the communication mode on the basis of network communication information obtained at the first setting of the communication mode so as to reduce the power consumption.
