PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the service life of an organic electroluminescent device by utilizing a simple wiring structure, without reducing open area ratio of a display panel. SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent device comprises first and second electrodes 10, 11 arranged oppositely to each other, a light emitting layer 12 held between the first and second electrodes 10, 11, and voltage applying means 13 capable of applying either positive or negative voltage to the first and second electrodes 10, 11.
