PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new cholesteric liquid crystalline compound preferable for the use in a heat-sensitive recording medium, and further to provide a method for producing the compound, a liquid crystal composition containing the liquid crystalline compound, and the heat-sensitive recording medium using the liquid crystal composition. SOLUTION: This new cholesteric liquid crystalline compound is represented by general formula (IA). The compound can be synthesized by the condensation or the like of a prescribed cholesteryl ester derivative with a dicarboxylic acid.
