PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inclination preventive device for a linear scale holder having an extremely simple structure that can prevent the linear scale holder from being inclined while allowing it to vertically move, and to provide a recorder having the same. SOLUTION: There is disclosed the recorder 100 wherein a gap PG between a recording head 13 and a recording medium P can be adjusted according to the kind or the thickness of the recording medium P. In the case where a carriage 10 has a structure that the carriage 10 can vertically move with a linear scale 3 held by the linear scale holder 4 and a tension applying member for maintaining tension of the linear scale 3 is provided thereto, an urging means 31 for preventing the linear scale holder 4 from being inclined and enabling a vertical movement of the linear scale holder 4, is provided to the linear scale holder 4.
