PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer which can obtain a proper printing result by forcedly increasing a temperature of a thermal head when the temperature of the thermal head is lower than a proper temperature. SOLUTION: This thermal printer is equipped with temperature sensors 2L and 2R for detecting the temperature, which are associated with the propriety of printing by a heating element. When determining that the result of detection by the temperature sensors 2L and 2R does reach a predetermined temperature appropriate for the printing by the heating element, a control part 10 performs control so that the output of image data into the heating element from image memory 12 can be stopped during one clock period, so that the heating element can be heated by outputting a strobe signal into a strobe signal generating circuit 14, and so that thermal paper P cannot be fed by a paper feed roller 3.
