PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aromatic amide block copolymer composed of a soft segment rich in rubber elasticity and a hard segment which becomes a molecule-constraining phase, excellent in heat resistance, resistance to hydrolysis and mechanical properties in a wide hardness range and useful for thermoplastic elastomers. SOLUTION: The aromatic amide block copolymer uses an aromatic amide unit as a hard segment and uses a unit selected from an aliphatic poly(oxyalkylene) unit, a polyorganosiloxane unit, an aliphatic hydrocarbon unit, an alicyclic hydrocarbon unit, an aliphatic polyester unit and an aliphatic polycarbonate unit as a soft segment, and the block copolymer is excellent in heat resistance, resistance to hydrolysis and mechanical properties.
