A motor vehicle display device, in particular a combination instrument which has a display for optically representing information concerning the vehicle by emitting light. The display has a passive decorative layer in part-zones, in which the passive decorative layer is mainly in a non-transparent position, when the display at this position emits no light and in which the passive decorative layer at this position is mainly transparent when the display emits light at this position. An independent claim is also included for a display device for motor vehicle.
