PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a power steering device of steer-by wire type structured with a suitable technology so that a steering wheel and steered wheels are separated substantially without being connected together mechanically. SOLUTION: A pair of input side hydraulic chambers 43 and 44 partitioned by an input side piston 42 are put in communication through communication passages 21 and 22 with a pair of output side hydraulic chambers of a power cylinder which gives a steering force to the vehicle wheels in steering. The rotating motions of an input shaft 14 connected with the steering wheel and the axial direction motions of the input side piston 42 are converted and transmitted to each other by a slider 50 and a ball nut 52 constituting a ball screw mechanism. The conversion ratio of the rotational displacement amount of the input shaft 14 to the axial direction displacement amount of the input side piston 42, i.e. the steering gear ratio, can be changed by putting the ball nut 52 in a rotational drive by a variable motor 30.
