<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte battery with high capacity and excellent charge and discharge cycle characteristics by solving a problem that charge and discharge cycle characteristics are inferior in a nonaqueous electrolyte battery using silicon oxide for a negative electrode active material. <P>SOLUTION: In this nonaqueous electrolyte battery using material expressed by general formula, SiO<SB>x</SB>(0<x<2), for the negative electrode active material, when the value x in the general formula is x<SB>s</SB>at the surface and x<SB>b</SB>at the center portion, a relation of x<SB>s</SB>and x<SB>b</SB>is expressed by x<SB>b</SB><x<SB>s</SB>, when the the depth from the surface set to x=(x<SB>s</SB>+x<SB>b</SB>) in the material is z<SB>a</SB>(nm), z<SB>a</SB>is expressed by 5≤z<SB>a</SB>≤50. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
