<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for screening a substance causing lowering of an activity of endothelial lipase, a method for testing therapeutic or prophylactic effects on one or two or more diseases selected from hyperlipemia, hypoHDLemia (hypo-high-density lipoproteinemia), arteriosclerosis and hyperglycemia, a method for determining HDL cholesterol, phosholipids, ANGPTL3 (angiopoietin-like 3) and ANGPTL4 (angiopoietin-like 4) and a medicinal composition for treatment or prophylaxis of the one or two or more diseases selected from the hyperlipemia, hypoHDLemia, arteriosclerosis and hyperglycemia. <P>SOLUTION: The method for screening, etc., of the substance causing the lowering of the activity of endothelial lipase [hereinafter referred to as EL] comprises the following steps (1) and (2).
