PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively eliminate pre-conversion noise without deteriorating the image quality. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus applies the pre-conversion processing to input image data expressed by a first color system to convert the data into output image data expressed in a second color system. Although the image processing apparatus can quickly convert the color system of image data, since the pre-conversion noise is superimposed on the image data on the other hand, the image processing apparatus carries out smoothing processing to eliminate the pre-conversion noise. Selecting a degree of smoothing in response to the resolution of the output image data can effectively avoid a blurred image caused by the smoothing while eliminating the noise.
