The electric motor has a stator (1) with a central longitudinal axis (4) and an outer contour (14). A shaft (6), concentric with respect to the axis in the stator is mounted in driven side and fan side bearing plates (8,9). A flange (11) on the driven side bearing plate has corner regions (15) which protrude beyond the stator's outer contour and a fan (24) next to the fan side bearing plate with a fan wheel (25) coupled to the shaft and an outer covering hood (26). The fan has air outlet openings (51) aligned with the corner regions of the flange and directed towards the stator.
