967,419. Batteries. ELECTRIC STORAGE BATTERY CO. Dec. 7, 1962 [Dec. 11, 1961], No. 46363/62. Heading H1B. Apparatus for providing a battery with a protective guarantee seal comprises means for positioning the end 35 of a web 25 of seal material above the battery 22 in a battery holder 21 and means for transversely severing an individual seal 43 from the web and placing it on top of the battery to cover at least one terminal. A knife blade 36 severs each seal 43 and spring fingers 37 restrain the seal in the arcuate form in which it is positioned by block 71 for cutting, continued downward movement of the knife blade 36 and fingers 37 then placing the seal on battery 22 where it is retained by its own slight resilience. The battery holder 21 advances until, at the position of battery 24, the battery is beneath the closing die 44 of a crimping machine which crimps over the upstanding outer wall of the battery to complete the battery assembly and anchor securely in position the seal 43. Pierced holes 46 are provided in the seal material web 25, which is of plastic coated paper, by rollers 31, 32, and these holes increase the friction between the seal 43 and the crimped-over battery wall (Fig. 11, not shown). Other indentations or perforations are made in web 25 to make the seal more easily frangible when the battery is used (Fig. 5, not shown). Specification 967,418 is referred to. |
