The valve has a spool (2) and valve housing (1) with a tubular inner bore (50). For better pressure tight and low friction fitting of the valve spool in the housing the material of the spool at least in the regions (30) adjacent to the valve housing in the assembled state has a lower elasticity modulus and higher heat expansion coefficient than the material (10) of the valve housing adjacent to the inner bore. An independent claim is included for a method for the pressure tight, low friction installation of a valve spool in a valve housing entailing press fitting of the spool into the inner bore of the valve housing, heating of the valve spool and valve housing and then cooling them.
