A device for controlling tension of a chain is provided to automatically controlling tension of the chain by utilizing radial component force for rotational force of upper and lower tension sprockets produced by run of the chain while the chain is driven by a driving motor. A device(10) for controlling tension of a chain comprises a screw length control unit(20) constituting upper and lower female screws(21,23) corresponding to each other to the sides; upper and lower length control screws(40) mounted to the upper and lower female screws of the screw length control unit via male screws(31,41) formed to each one end; and upper and lower tension sprockets(51,61) engaging with the outside of chains advancing in opposed directions by driving and driven sprockets. Male screws(33,43) are formed to the other ends of the upper and lower length control screws. The upper and lower tension sprockets are rotatably mounted to the male screws formed to each other end of the upper and lower length control screws via upper and lower clevises.
