<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereo surgical microscope which is light in weight and small in size as compared to conventional surgical microscope, can avoid or reduce the generation of heat in a microscope housing, does not require the supply of a large current to the microscope housing capable of causing electrification, is relatively excellent in energy efficiency and can avoid or reduce the inhibition of the latitude of motion of the microscope housing. <P>SOLUTION: The stereo surgical microscope having an incident-illumination device incorporated in the microscope housing is constituted so that at least one light emitting diode 1 that radiates white illumination light 14, an illumination optical system 10 and a deflection element 7 are arranged so as to be able to illuminate the surface 6 to be inspected with a coaxial incident-illumination method by using the white illumination light 14.
