PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light source device having a uniform light distribution, and having a service life further improved. SOLUTION: This surface light source includes a light source body 200, space dividing members 300, discharge gas supplying members 400, and a voltage applying part 500. The light source body has a space having a flat shape, and a fluorescent layer disposed in the flat space for converting a invisible light ray into a visible light ray. The space dividing members are used for dividing the flat space into at least two discharge spaces. The discharge gas supplying members penetrate the space division members, are fixed to the space dividing members, and supply a discharge gas for generating the invisible light to the respective discharge spaces.
