<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit a process for taking in and out a process cartridge and a jamming processing, with a small operation for opening/closing one opening/closing cover, without impairing both the pressing function for the process cartridge nor the jamming processability at a fixing part, in an image forming apparatus of a process cartridge system. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a first and a second fixing members for forming a fixing nip; a means for bringing the first fixing member into press contact with the second fixing member; a fixing means 11 having a means for releasing the press contact; a means for detachably mounting the process cartridge B; the opening/closing cover 14 for opening/closing the process cartridge to be capable of being taken in and out; and an interlocking means 53 for making the press contact release means of the fixing means release the press contact of the first and the second fixing members, following the opening action of the opening/closing cover, and for moving the process cartridge to a start position, while making the press contact means of the fixing means bring the first fixing member into press contact with the second fixing member, from the press contact release state, following the closing action of the opening/closing cover. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
