A fire door (300), comprising: a) a generally rectangular core (301) formed of resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite having a predetermined density; and b) a pair of stiles (302) secured to and extending along opposed edges of the core (301) and a pair of rails (303) secured to and extending along opposed edges of the core (301), the stiles (302) and the rails (303) formed of resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite having a density exceeding the density of the core (301).
