<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source unit 10 in which cooling effect of an LED chip 100 is enhanced by flowing cooling fluid 400 forcibly thereby cooling the LED chip directly or indirectly, and to provide a projector 1000 capable of sustaining good performance with high luminance for a long period by mounting the light source unit 10. <P>SOLUTION: The light source unit 10 comprises a light emitting element base 120 being fixed with an LED chip 100 which is cooled directly or indirectly with cooling fluid 400, and inflow channels 124 and 126 and outflow channel 125 and 127 of the cooling fluid 400 provided in the light emitting element base 120 wherein the inflow channels 124 and 126 and the outflow channel 125 and 127 are provided substantially in parallel with the surface of the light emitting element base 120 being fixed with the LED chip 100.
