A nailing machine has a switch operation member (40) for switching and setting a single nailing and a continuous nailing mode and pivot restraining means for restraining, in cooperation with the switch operation member (40) switched and set to the single nailing mode, a pivotal movement of a contact lever (34) that operates a valve stem (19) of an activation valve (15). The pivot restraining means restrains the amount of pivotal movement of the contact lever (34) at an intermediate trigger operation position of a trigger lever (31) in the single nailing mode, and the valve stem (19) is held so that the activation valve (15) maintains an ON operation state. This results in reduction in reaction of the nailing machine in the continuous nailing mode and prevents occurrence of a dribble in the single nailing mode. In addition, misoperation in connecting an air chuck is prevented.
