APPARATUS AND METHOF FOR TRANSMITTING/RECEIVING MULTICAST DATA IN A MULTICAST ORTHOGONAL FREQUENCY DIVISION MULTIPLE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

An apparatus and a method for transmitting/receiving multicast data in a multicast orthogonal frequency division multiple communication system are provided to enhance frequency efficiency when transmitting scalable multicast data by adaptively modulating real time link parameters obtained by sub-optimal solutions. A multicast data transmission apparatus divides an overall frequency band into plural sub-carrier bands and transmits hierarchical multicast data. A sub-carrier allocator(402) uses channel quality information fed back from respective mobile terminals to allocate the sub-carriers for the respective mobile stations. A bit allocator(403) uses the channel quality information and the allocation information of the sub-carriers to allocate the number of bits to be transmitted via each of the sub-carriers. A transmitter modulates the multicast data such that the multicast data corresponds to the allocated bit numbers, and transmits the modulated result to the mobile stations.
