An excavation system of a watertight caisson is provided to shorten the time required for work and to minimize the damage of natural environment in a riverbed and a watertight caisson by excavating a riverbed to a minimum when installing a watertight caisson. In a watertight caisson(10) coupled with many panels(11) having a buoyancy tank(12) and provided with a watertight member located on the lowermost end, the excavation system of a watertight caisson(10) comprises one or more vertical rails(13) installed in the watertight caisson(10) and excavation equipment(15) guided to the vertical rail(13) and excavating the riverbed. The excavation equipment(15) comprises a support bar provided with a movable wheel guided to the vertical rail(13), many support jacks(18) installed on the support bar, a horizontal rail(19) connected to the support jack(18) and a working cylinder(20) coupled/guided to the horizontal rail(19) and provided with various excavation tools(23). The installation method of a watertight caisson using an excavation system comprises the steps of leveling up soils(26) of the riverbed and subsiding a watertight caisson(10) to the soils(26), removing the soils(26) in the watertight caisson(10) to reach the lower end of the watertight caisson(10) to the ground(27), descending a support bar and compressing a support jack(18) to the ground(27), excavating or grinding the ground(27) even by controlling excavation equipment(15) on the water, placing and curing leveling concrete on the ground(27), installing a watertight member on a retreated part(14) of the watertight caisson(10) and compressing the leveling concrete to cut off the inflow of outside water, and draining off the water in the watertight caisson(10).
