<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air cleaner which performs contact between air and a liquid as a treating fluid in order to remove an insoluble gas from the air and can fully treat the gas. <P>SOLUTION: The air cleaner comprises a gas/liquid contact means that performs contact between air and a treating fluid to treat a pollutant in the air with the treating fluid to lower a pollutant content and an ionization means that ionizes the pollutant before it comes into contact with the treating fluid in the gas/liquid contact. The pollutant fed into the air cleaner is ionized and charged by applying a high voltage thereto. In one embodiment, the treating fluid is charged with a potential opposite in sign to the pollutant by controlling the oxidation-reduction potential of the treating fluid, which facilitates the contact between the gas and the treating fluid. In another embodiment, an ultraviolet irradiation means is further provided that irradiates the pollutant taken in the treating fluid with ultraviolet rays to decompose the pollutant and to thereby restore the treatment efficiency of the treating fluid. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
