PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent change of a range position to a parking range position because a range change control is too late for change from a main motor to a sub-motor, in case of a fault of an actuator of a shift-by-wire type automatic transmission during running of a vehicle to cause malfunction of the main motor and a range position is changed in a parking range direction. SOLUTION: In a detent plate 1 of a range-change device, a crest 1c between a detent groove 1-P which corresponds to a parking range P and a detent groove 1-R which is adjacent to the detent groove 1-P is formed to be higher than the conventional art. The sub-motor 16 with high torque characteristic is operated when the change from a range other than the parking range to the parking range or the change from the parking range to the other range is performed, and the main motor 15 with high rotation characteristic is operated when the change between the ranges other than the parking range is performed.
