PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capacitor in which power density is enhanced sharply as compared with a conventional electric double layer capacitor. SOLUTION: In the capacitor comprising a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator, and electrolyte, active carbon having a specific surface of≥5,000 m<SP>2</SP>/g measured by a BET method and a mean particle diameter of≤2μm is employed in the positive electrode and the negative electrode, the thickness of the positive electrode and the negative electrode is≤20μm, and the thickness of the separator interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode is≤20μm. The separator interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode has an average pore size of 1μm or less and a porosity of 30-80%, for example.
