PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation mechanism of a self-holding type solenoid of which the movable iron core is not released just after attraction and to provide a diaphragm device and a camera which use this operation mechanism. SOLUTION: After completion of running of a front curtain and a rear curtain, an arithmetic circuit 101 outputs a signal to a driving motor control circuit 121 in order to lower a mirror. A timer of the arithmetic circuit 101 starts operation approximately simultaneously with this signal output. After a prescribed time T1, the arithmetic circuit 101 outputs a signal to a diaphragm magnet control circuit 118 so as to cause an exciting coil 15 to generate a magnetic field in the same direction as a magnetic field of a permanent magnet 13. In response to detecting the signal outputted from the arithmetic circuit, the diaphragm magnet control circuit 118 excites the exciting coil 15 for a prescribed time T2 so as to cause the exciting coil 15 to generate a magnetic field in the same direction as the magnetic field of the permanent magnet 13.
