A mixed ion conductor of perovskite type oxide containing Ba, Ce and In. The perovskite type oxide is a crystalline compound of the formula Ba(Ce1-xInx)pO3 (wherein x is in the range of 0.4 to0.6 and p in the range of 1 to 1.02). There is provided an electrochemical device including this mixed ion conductor as a solid electrolyte, which electrochemical device has such a structure that electrons generated by oxidation-reduction reaction are taken out in the direction of the thickness of the solid electrolyte. As a result, there are provided a mixed ion conductor of high conductivity and high reliability and an electrochemical device including this mixed ion conductor. |
