PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet inspecting device capable of making transport guide of sheets on an inspecting means without using a hold-down guide. SOLUTION: The paper sheet inspecting device is equipped with a guide device 4 having a transport guide couple 2 to transport sheets of paper P along a transport path H and an upper 6 and a lower sensor guides 7 positioned opposing at a certain distance with the transport path H interposed and making guidance in such a way that the sheets P are passed between the sensor guides 6 and 7, a sensor 3 installed on the lower sensor guide 7 and inspecting the fed sheet(s) P, and a gas jetting part 14 installed on the upper sensor guide 6, forming a static pressure gas layer between the sensor guides 6 and 7 by jetting out the compressed air, and pressing the sheet P to the lower sensor guide 7 by this static pressure gas layer.
