<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas generator capable of adjusting the gas characteristics such as the pressure, temperature or the like of gas to be generated from a second combustion chamber. <P>SOLUTION: In the gas generator comprising a combustion chamber charged with gas generating agents (14a are 14b), a bottomed cylindrical member (5) to divide the combustion chamber into two or more independent combustion chambers (4 and 7), filter means (6 and 8) which are installed in the combustion chambers (4 and 7) independently divided into two or more combustion chambers (4 and 7) and allow gas generated in the combustion chambers (4 and 7) to pass, and ignition means (16 and 17) to ignite the gas generating agents (14a and 14b), the filter means (6) is disk-shaped, and arranged on the inner side of the cylindrical member (5). The thickness of the filter means (6) is 2-25 mm, and the apparent density is 2.5-5 g/cm<SP>3</SP>.
