PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader for reducing read image nonuniformity caused by feeding speed nonuniformity of a medium carrying an image. SOLUTION: This image reader is provided with a holding part 15 for holding the medium, a reading part provided with a light source for generating light to read an image, a transporting means 40 for transporting either the holding part 15 or the reading part on a straight line in a vertical scanning direction, a transport control part 39 for driving and controlling the transporting means 40, and a control part 38 for controlling respective configurations so as to perform either image reading processing by the reading part or driving processing of the transporting means 40 by the transport control part 39.
