PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup unit capable of highly accurately positioning an image pickup element for the main body of an image pickup apparatus, and preventing a cover glass or the flexible wiring board of the image pickup element from peeling. SOLUTION: The unit has a flexible wiring board 2 on which an opening 2m for enabling light to pass is formed, an image pickup element 3 which is disposed in the side of the first surface of the board and converts light having passed through the opening into an electric signal, a cover member 1 fixed on the second surface of the board so as to cover the opening, and a main holding member 9 for holding the flexible wiring board to which the image pickup element is connected. The main holding member abuts on the first surface of the board.
