A shock absorbing lower tilt type steering column is provided to absorb impact by sliding the steering column forward in bumping a driver into a steering wheel at a collision, and to relieve initial shock by mounting the shock absorbing unit in the lower supporting structure of the steering column. A lower tilt type steering column is composed of a lower mounting bracket(103) fixed and installed to a vehicle body, a rotating bracket(104) turned and connected to the lower mounting bracket, a slide bracket(105) fixed to a steering column tube and composed of an elongated hole formed longitudinally in the steering column tube, a connecting shaft(106) penetrating the elongated hole of the slide bracket, connecting to the rotating bracket and supporting the slide bracket, and a shock absorbing unit absorbing impact in sliding the slide bracket and the connecting shaft relatively at a collision.
